Women in the Church

In her personal faith, Rachel holds a complementarian view of women’s role in the church. This view sees Scriptures such as 1 Timothy 2:11-15 as both relevant to the church today and important to follow. She believes that a woman is created equal to a man but with the special role of a helper. In the context of the local church, as taught in 1 Timothy 2:11-15, she believes that women are not to fulfill the position or duties of a pastor in the church, that is, the leader of the congregation who is charged with guiding the congregation in faith and doctrine. For this reason, Rachel is very careful to consider her opportunities to recite within this guideline of what is biblically open to her and what is not. She is available to both recite and teach from passages for women’s and children’s events as well as lead workshops on the topic of Scripture memorization and recitation. She is available for only recitation and Scripture memory workshops for a whole congregation. If you would like Rachel to recite in your weekly service for your whole church, she can recite passages that leave enough time for the Pastor of the church to teach a doctrinal message with it. For longer passages, such as the whole book of Hebrews, she is available to recite for the congregation in a special event outside of the weekly church service that will include only the recitation of Scriptures and possibly personal testimony or encouragement in the discipline of Scripture memorization. She is thankful and blessed to share the Scriptures word for word in a tradition that hearkens back to Phoebe’s apparent role in Romans 16:1-2.

It’s not that Rachel can’t teach doctrine or doesn’t love to do so; indeed, she loves to talk through the Bible’s teaching in the appropriate context. The reason Rachel uses these guidelines in her ministry is that she takes the Bible very seriously as her final rule for faith and practice. This is what she believes the Bible teaches in this matter and she submits willingly to God’s direction with joy.
